Warm and Fuzzies

Remember when you were a kid and you had that one cd/band that you were absolutely in love with? When you played their one cd over and over again, for days on end? When a certain song made your heart skip a beat and you felt all warm and fuzzy? I just got that feeling while my iPod was on shuffle and FOD by Greenday randomly played.

The cd that kind of defined what your place in life is gonna be?

For me that cd was Greenday's Dookie. I was about 14 and totally in love with the idea of a liberal, stand up for your rights kind of music. To be opinionated and questioning in a little town where the norm was to follow the herd and do what you're told, was an exhilarating and emancipating feeling. I believe the correct term is fuck yeah!

The whole punk rock thing defined who I was throughout high school, and shaped who I was to be become. A kickass, strongly willed adult. I had this urge to be a little bit different and being the arty punky kid emotional teenager was how I expressed myself.

Listening to the punk rock music (said in my best Blink 182 nasal accent) really was the best thing I ever did for myself. Being a bit outspoken, and having the supportive family that I do, I learnt to question society's 'ideals' and draw a little outside of the lines.

Here's to kids making awesome music and inspiring a nation, nay, the world's youngest little free thinkers.

Don't stop sticking it to the man.

"Seventeen and strung out on confusion
Trapped inside a roll of disillusion
I found out what it takes to be a man
Now mom and dad will never understand "

Jessica Simpson's Nude Cover (up)

The April edition of Elle US features a nude and very pregnant Jessica Simpson. Which is neither shocking nor original. So why, you ask, am I posting about it?

Because of the second cover that has been circulating the magazine stands. The clothed issue.
Why, why release two?? It's not like the first cover is so offensive, or even showing anything that scandalous.

I mean, is the form of a pregnant woman something terrible, something that will scar children for life?

Is being pregnant not revered as being one of the most natural states of being, like ever??

A grocery store in Arizona actually covered up the nekkid Jess with a piece of cardboard.

This is not the first time we've seen glowing celebs showing off their baby bumps au naturel. Demi Moore was the first on the cover of Vanity Fair, way back in 1991, Britney just recently on Harper's Bazaar.

So why the big cover up?

Sad Face

Today my iPhone fell off the place I had left it , and the screen smashed at the top.

I am DEVASTATED. Morbid. Down in the dumps. Sad Sally.

Anyone who has an iPhone as well will know what it's like. It's not a phone. It's a mini computer/iPod/camera/mapbook/list maker thingy. Seriously.

And it's R1400 to fix. Half my rent. Damn damn damn. FAK.

Waaa. Woe. Is. Me.

Donations are welcome. I'm broke as it is, stitches in my toe and highlights in my hair made damn sure of that this month.

Did I tell you about my stitches? I'll post some sexy and gory pics tomorrow.

They say this kind of luck comes in threes. What's next?

I was just telling Boyfriend earlier how I'm normally so lucky, kinda just float on through the month. Not March. March and I, we are not friends.

Boo.

Valentines Day Gifts

I know it's a bit late, but I want to tell you about the pretty perfume I won in a Lanvin/ Eloise Dreyer competition.

All I did was RT something on Twitter, and after being grumpy cuz I had to close shop on Valentines Day, I checked my mail and I had won! Yay me! I was so happy, I think mainly because I had won something...

It smells delicious, although it's not a scent I would normally pick out.
Check out Eloise's site here

Tiny Dancer Art Agency

Nelson... I love you!
Happy Monday lovers!

I just want to quickly tell you about this company I have recently started helping out.

From their website: "Tiny Dancer has recognised this need by creating a forum through which local relatively unestablished artists can display and sell their work; the aim of which is to encourage artists to use their talents to create an income, while enabling the public to be able to purchase original art pieces at reasonable prices."

They are having a kick ass competition where you can win an original artwork by Janine Bouwer, titled "Nelson Mandela in His True Colours."

To win, simply like them on Facebook and Twitter, and post on your Facebook/Twitter homepage "I just entered this cool Tiny Dancer Art Agency giveaway to win an original art work of Nelson Mandela"

Please support them, what a great concept. For more info check out their site here

Yummo!

Going through my iPhone pics (ya, I just had to say iPhone, couldn't have just said phone) I found some of the yummy dishes Markie and I made over the past few months. Will post recipes soon, promise!

I Heart Biking

I'm sure I've told you before, but I am positively obsessed with bicycling! I love riding my pretty pink bike every where, whether its for an hour's hard sweat or just around the block to the shop.

I wish more people would get into biking, it's so healthy and environmentally friendly. I love Seapoint for it's awesome prommenade, and the Milnerton/ Tableview area for the special bike lanes. I wish they would make those all over Cape Town, especially in the CBD. The traffic can be scary and some of the drivers are mental!

Here's some cool pics I've taken either of things I've seen while biking, or of me on my bike.

Kisses!

Xxoo

Happy Birthday Markie!

RAMFest 2012

Wow! Ramfest was epic!

It took place on probably one of the hottest days of the year, I hear temperatures were soaring above 38 degrees! I had a special water cup reserved just for pouring over myself.

My highlights were
*Newtown Knife Gang. I knew they were going to be epic! Their stage presence was amazing. They probably got the worst time slot, 13h00ish, as it was baking by then, I could hardly stand to be in direct sunlight.

*Hog Hoggidy Hog - So good to see the boys back in Cape Town. The moshpit was dusty and dangerous as always, pretty sweaty too, I steered well clear of that one.

*AWOLNation - Such a surprise! I was convinced that I wouldn't enjoy these guys, what I found on YouTube was quite indie and eighties sounding. Their sound is hardcore with a really strange tinge to it. Weirdo's Hard Rock is how I describe it.

*The Narrow - Awesome as always. These South African legends rock so hard. I lose my face every time. What a perfect build up to In Flames

*Fokofpolisiekar - I was impressed. I'm not normally a Fokof fan, and I haven't actually seen a show of their's in years. The huge crowd during their performance was a clear indication of the love this band 's fans have for them.

The lineup was superb this year, and there was a much bigger turnout then I had expected.

KIEF:
The awesome, awesome lineup. R350 for all those bands, what a deal
The free purified water. What a lifesaver. Backstage we had free bottled water.
The kickass MC. Anyone know his name?

CRAP:
The fact that it took place on a Sunday. There were many people I spoke to who didn't party as hard as they would have liked to. Who wants to drive back home after a festival? Also, a lot of people had work the next day, and no one likes a hangover on a Monday

The lack of shade - It was literally boiling hot, and I actually expected to see some passed out dehydrated people, but luckily not. The two beer tents were full and really warm, not much relief from the Karoo sun

R350 for a one day event. A little expensive, but on the other hand a great deal for all those bands. I'm not sure I would have gone if I didn't have a free ticket.

All in all,  I had a kick ass time. I was very grateful that I didn't have work at 9am Monday morning.
I came home dusty, hot, exhausted but so euphoric.

Cheers Ramfest

RAMFest 2012

It's that time of year again - RRRrraaamfest!

This year's is a little different from last, just a one day festival. One day, I hear you say? Yes, one day... :( But what that does mean is that more cities get the Ramfest experience., not just Cape Town and JHB.

I am super psyched for The Narrow, Newtown Knife Gang and of course, HOG HOGGIDY HOG. Booya!

I'm also really excited to see In Flames, it's always awesome to check international bands in SA.

You can find all the details here.
See you there bitches.

Somebody That I Used to Know

Wow. Check out this cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Walk Off the Earth.

It is so cool. So, so cool.

Intel - My Visual Life

Intel has such an interesting brand campaign going on at the moment. They have taken people who use their products every day, talking about their specific art form. It's so damn cool

Scott Schumann, the Sartorialist, Michael Wolff, co-founder of one of the world’s most outstanding design companies, Wolff Olins, and other amazing artistic, creative individuals are featured.

Here are my favourite videos, the most inspiring and visually pleasing. After all, it is "My Visual Life".
